Do You Care About Transaction Fees on Solana?
Priority Fee Analysis of 3 mayor Solana Wallets
Most people know that transaction fees on Solana are usually really inexpensive, so let’s put it to a test?
Over a nine-day period, we conducted back-to-back Solana Pay transactions at various times of the day using Solflare, Phantom, and Backpack wallets. Each payment request was generated using the free tool at netcash.wtf. For this comparison, we used only the 'out-of-the-box' default settings for each wallet, with all transaction fees paid in Solana’s native currency, SOL.
A quick note: this data was captured in March 2026. Given the rapid pace of the Solana ecosystem, these figures should be viewed as a snapshot in time rather than a permanent benchmark.
In the following chart you can find the fee for each transaction in US-Dollar:
Average Transaction Fee in US-Dollar
Solflare: 0.176
Phantom: 0.007
Backpack: 0.002
To better understand these costs, it helps to look at them in lamports (the smallest unit of SOL, where 1 lamport equals 0.000000001 SOL). Every Solana transaction fee consists of a fixed base fee and a variable priority fee. While the base fee remained constant at 5,000 lamports for all tests, the priority fees varied significantly:
Average Priority Fee in Lamports
Solflare: 2,000,000
Phantom: 74,998
Backpack: 17,084
While Solflare and Phantom automatically manage fees, Backpack offers manual adjustments. Even without tweaking these settings, the data makes a strong case for wallets that let you opt for lower fees when the network isn't congested. Despite the wide range in costs, we didn't experience a single dropped transaction, meaning every wallet's default was 'safe' for standard Solana Pay use.
